Custom in-ear moulds

Custom earpieces produced from customers’ ear impressions for an audio company, with each impression and mould checked side by side before delivery.

From ear impression to fitted earpiece

Every custom earpiece starts from an impression of the customer’s ear. The impression is scanned, turned into a printable mould and checked against the original before it is delivered.

Checking the impressions

Scanning the impressions made problems visible early. On some, part of the ear canal was missing from the impression itself, so the scan could not be used as it was and a new impression was requested.

Quality control, side by side

Printed moulds were compared with their impressions and annotated: where the canal should end, where a surface was too rough and needed polishing, and whether an opening was blocked. Those notes went back to the client with each batch.

Fitted earpieces

The finished moulds take the sound tube and cable of the in-ear monitor, as the photographs of the yellow and red earpieces show.
