A matching set of etched glass sconces

Four wall sconces needed matching glass shades with a decorative pattern. We designed the pattern, had it sandblast-etched into frosted glass and assembled the shades onto their metal fixtures.

Pattern design

The geometric cross pattern was drawn to wrap around a curved shade and to read clearly both when the lamp is off and when it is lit from behind.

Sandblast etching

Sandblasting etches the pattern into the glass surface, so it will not wear off. The frosted glass diffuses the light while the etched lines stay visible.

Assembly and testing

The shades were fitted to their metal stems with the wiring, then lit to check that the pattern and the light looked the same across all four.
